Housing to meet specific needs

Several ACT organisations provide accommodation to meet the specific needs of their tenants:

Older Women

The YWCA’s Rentwell property management service sub-leases homes owned by private investors to older women and women with children. The houses are leased at below market rates. Men and couples are considered if there is housing available. Rentwell tenants have low to moderate incomes and are not eligible for other forms of housing support.

Women leaving the Alexander Maconochie Centre

Toora Women supports women leaving the AMC and their children into accommodation through their Coming Home program. Support programs to help rebuild family relationships and to learn independent living skills are also offered.

Pregnant and postnatal Women

Karinya House is a supported accommodation facility for up to ten pregnant or postnatal women and their babies. Karinya can also offer information, counselling, 24-hour support, advocacy, casework and referral services. These services are available for pregnant women at any time before the birth of their baby and for up to three months after their baby is born.
