Community Services

ACT Community Service organisations include area-based community services, libraries, women’s information services and support services for Canberra Carers.

The ACT Government funds five general area-based Community Services organisations to provide a wide range of programs and services for individuals, families, children and young people in their local areas. The programs aim to support self-determination and reduce social isolation by bringing people together in inclusive, connected communities. Programs offered include:

  • childcare
  • school aged care
  • youth engagement
  • community transport
  • family and seniors support
  • disability services
  • in home and social support
  • housing support
  • mental ill health and wellbeing support 
  • art, sport and recreation activities.

Libraries ACT

Libraries ACT operate nine branches throughout the ACT and have an extensive collection of eResources to download.

Women’s Information

Women’s Information is a free service provided by the ACT Office for Women to help women access relevant and timely information to allow women to make choices.

Community Services for Carers

Carers ACT

Carers ACT supports people who have a caring role through their counselling, respite and individual or small group training and skills development courses. Their Carer Gateway provides practical information and resources to support carers, and help carers connect to local support services.

CYCLOPS ACT

CYCLOPS ACT is a program supporting young people up to 25 years old who care for a family member experiencing a physical or intellectual disability, mental health issues, addiction issues or a chronic illness.
