The ACT Government runs seven programs to enhance housing stability, these include:

Affordable Rent Scheme

The Affordable Rental Office runs an affordable rental scheme for older Canberrans on low incomes. The amount of rent charged to tenants reflects the tenants’ capacity to pay.

Shared Equity

The shared equity scheme allows eligible tenants to purchase 70% of their Housing ACT property upfront. IMB provides the finance for this program.

Utilities Concession

Pensioner Concession and Low Income Health Care Card holders are eligible for discounts on their electricity, natural gas, water and sewerage bills.

Supportive Tenancy Service

The Supportive Tenancy Service supports tenants who are in housing stress or may be at risk of homelessness by advocating for tenants with landlords and lenders. The service can also refer tenants to support services and support tenants at ACAT hearings. The service is available to all households, including public and private tenants and home owners.
