Benjamin Nash – Empowering Inclusive Workplaces at ADACAS

Coming from the fast-paced world of hospitality and sales, Benjamin Nash’s journey to joining ADACAS is anything but ordinary. A passionate advocate for inclusion and a skilled business development officer, Ben’s work today revolves around bridging the gap between businesses and employees with disability.

After a decade in the hospitality industry, from Woolworths to the Hilton Hotels and Marriott, Ben now finds himself driven to build better, more inclusive workplaces through the Employer Confidence Program at ADACAS.

Ben, who has cerebral palsy, understands the barriers that often exist in the workforce for people with disability.  As Business Development Officer at ADACAS, he leads efforts to create inclusive employment environments for people with disability, focusing specifically on helping businesses build confidence in hiring and retaining employees with diverse abilities.

Championing the Employer Confidence Program

The Employer Confidence Program at ADACAS is designed to guide businesses through the process of employing people with disability. Ben’s role involves working directly with businesses, offering support across the employee lifecycle—from recruitment and selection to onboarding, retention, and beyond.

One of the key elements Ben emphasises is that “it’s not a one-size-fits-all scenario” when it comes to creating inclusive work environments.

“Each employee, regardless of ability, brings their own set of needs and strengths to the workplace, and it’s important to tailor support accordingly.” says Ben.

“Everyone’s needs are different. It’s about understanding the person first, then adapting the workplace to allow them to thrive,”

The experience of working with businesses is very much “hands-on,” helping employers understand that small changes, adjustments, and cultivating inclusive practices can make a world of difference.

The Power of Hands-On Support

With one in five Australians of working age living with disability, yet only 48% employed compared to 80% of the general population, ADACAS’ Employer Confidence Program is critical in leveling the playing field. It provides businesses with the tools and knowledge to create an inclusive workplace. Ben’s hands-on support includes guidance on:

  • Attraction: How to be an appealing employer by writing inclusive job descriptions and reaching the right candidates.
  • Selection: Enabling all great candidates to apply by organising accessible interviews and understanding new starter requirements.
  • Onboarding: Building an inclusive culture through training, professional development, and disability-confident managers.
  • Retention: Ensuring a supportive environment through performance management, rewards, and the necessary workplace accommodations or modifications.

With this comprehensive approach, businesses are not just ticking boxes—they are creating workplaces where employees with disability feel valued, supported, and empowered to do their best work.
