Disability Advocacy

Adjust text size: A- A+

At ADACAS we assist people with a disability to have their voices and opinions heard so that they can be empowered to experience the lives they want to live. We support the rights of people in line with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. We provide individual advocacy which means we work with a person to understand what they want and help them to have their voice heard. We provide information to help you understand your options. We can also provide support for you to self advocate. We provide advocacy around a wide range of issues that affect people with disability including services, education, justice, health, employment, transport and your rights.

ADACAS is part of the Disability Advocacy Network Australia (DANA). DANA is the national representative body for a network of advocacy organisations throughout Australia.

National Disability Insurance Scheme

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a new way for people with disability to get the support they need. It is managed by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). Advocacy can help you to understand the NDIS and what it can offer you. Advocates can help you with information, support and participating in meetings with the NDIA. Advocates can also help you if you are not happy with the support you are getting from the NDIS.

More information about the NDIS can be found on the NDIS website.

NDIS Appeals Support

You are able to ask for a review of an NDIA decision and you are also able to appeal NDIS decisions. ADACAS will help you with making an appeal about NDIS decisions you are not happy with. We are also able to present to groups and services about the review and appeal processes and how to use them. Contact ADACAS to arrange a presentation or to get support for your appeal.
